The 41st Japan Hobby Show, organized by the Hobby Association of Japan, took place over the span of three days, April 27~29, 2017, at Tokyo Big Sight. The theme of this handmade event was, “Discover Handmade~ Fine Quality~”. There were booths from various categories lined up, split into sections such as “Fashion World”, “Art World”, and “Stationary World”. Some of the booths even had workshops, with demonstrations and the chance to make your own crafts.
There were several special booths, such as “TOMOE SHINOHARA WORLD”. Tomoe Shinohara, known for the rise of the “Shinora Boom” in the 1990s, was appointed to be chairperson of the handmade special committee of the Japan Hobby Association. At this year’s Hobby Show, she had her own booth, workshops, and also appeared on stage, with a talk show and fashion show.
Other special presentations included the “Sada construction shop and Yoshimoto DIY entertainer gathering! Work born from fantasy and imagination 2017”, where Yoshimoto DIY performers did comical DIY performances while wearing strange costumes, a “Handmade meets Cosplay”, collaboration between the Hobby Show and the World Cosplay Summit, as well as a Hobby Industry Awards Ceremony, Hobby Grand Prize, and Japan Handmade of the Year Awards.
It was a very popular event, with long lines at the entryways to the hall in which the event was taking place.
