Strengthening 50 years of Bilateral Ties between Indonesia & Singapore through Fashion Collaboration and Empowerment

Marking 50 years of bilateral relations between Indonesia – Singapore, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, Textile and Fashion Federation Singapore (Taff), DFW Creative and Galeries Lafayette, Jakarta, proudly present “RISING Fashion” – a fashion showcase collaboration between promising fashion companies of Indonesia and Singapore.

This collaborative project will showcase fashion and apparels, exhibited from 1 – 31 August 2017 on Galeries Lafayette, 1st floor.


RISING Fashion inspired by the jargon #RISING50 – an acronym of RI (Republic of Indonesia) and SING (Singapore) and used throughout 2017 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee, is one of the highlighted bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore for the years to come.

Bringing together creations from 12 selected Indonesian and Singaporean fashion designers, the chosen fashion lines for this inaugural programme are from Indonesia: Amanda Rahardjo, Calla, Natalia Kiantoro, Sav Lavin while from Singapore: Chainless Brain, Collate the Label, Island Shop, Our Second Nature, Queenmark, Salient Label, State Property and The Mindful Company.


Running for one full month, fashion lovers will be exposed to the most impressive and diverse collections from the RISING Fashion designers. The variety of panache and their special touch from each of the designers will certainly bring a unique value for fashion lovers.

“RISING Fashion gives an added value to the definition and sets a good example of Fashion Diplomacy” said H. E. Ngurah Swajaya, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Singapore. Further on, Ambassador Ngurah also emphasized that not only does RISING Fashion exchange creative ideas, expand market and share rich cultural values, but also bridges mutual interest and opportunities to our vast and fast growing fashion industries, young talents as well as bring closer people-to-people contact for a stronger mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation.

“We believe collaborative projects and cooperation in the fashion industry such as RISING Fashion can contibute and strengthen the ASEAN Economic Community. And, eventually, a collaborative Indonesia x Singapore fashion project can enter the market as a strong and powerful influence in the global fashion industry.”

Said Mr Lee Yee Fung, Group Director of Lifestyle Business Group, IE Singapore, “Southeast Asia has a deep and diverse culture that is perfect for inspiring creativity in fashion designs for today’s global markets. RISING Fashion is a welcomed initiative that taps the strengths of both countries and allows our fashion companies to exchange creative ideas, expand their customer base and learn from each other’s unique cultural backgrounds. Such creative and business collaboration between both countries have been successful, and IE Singapore will continue to build partnerships between Singapore and Indonesia fashion companies.”


Throughout the month of August, RISING Fashion will be filled with fashion presentation, press conference, designer and buyer meetings as well as a shopping event for fashion lovers. These activities are held to widen the brand distribution channels and enhance the brand exposure for all participating designers.


Ms Lynette Lee, Chief Executive Officer of Textile and Fashion Federation, said “We see an increasing trend of fashion consumers looking for new fashion trends from new markets and designers. Fashion pop-ups such as RISING Fashion allow for this efficient transfer of new creative ideas and a direct connection between fashion purveyors and their b2b and b2c customers”.

Said Ms Charina Widjaja, DFW Creative Managing Director, “We are excited to create an opportunity together with the government, to support Indonesia and Singapore designers through a country exchange programme. Because what’s a better way to celebrate 50 years of bilateral relations between both countries than through fashion!

“Rising 50 will kick-start our DFW 3 year campaign of globalising independent designers through upcoming multiple country exchange programmes, allowing all independent designers to shine on a global scale.”
