7 Dazzling moments of the Singapore Fashion Awards 2017

The Singapore Fashion Awards 2017 came to a spectacular end on 24 November 2017 at W Singapore-Sentosa Cove with guests and winners dancing together in one celebratory groove to rejoice over the talents of the fashion industry. With a diverse range of creative fashion heavyweights, the Singapore Fashion Awards is not only a platform to acknowledge the accomplishments and hard work of these talents (both forefront and behind the scenes) but also a purposeful step in placing Singapore onto the fashion global map.

Now, before any of us start wishing to turn back the clock and relive those glorious hours, let us bring you the best highlights of the tea gala.

  1. Glamorous styles by the winners of the Designers category



Of course, it is a given to wrap up the Singapore Fashion Awards with the most prestigious Designer of the Year award (Accessories and Fashion). And, there is no better way to announce it than with the signature touch of every fashion event, a showcase of the models dressed in the winners, Dzojchen and Marilyn Tan Jewellery outfits and accessories.

Launched in 2013, Dzojchen has been building its presence through the various runways from Paris to Singapore Fashion Weeks while Marilyn Tan has over 20 years of jewellery experience, priding herself in handcrafted pieces, which lasted throughout seasons.

  1. Bespoke Award


Everybody has a story to tell or has that special memory they wish to showcase in a form that is uniquely theirs. This is what the Bespoke Category is all about. Specially introduced in this year’s Singapore Fashion Awards, the Bespoke Award recognises the ability of the designer in conveying the story and inspiration behind the bespoke piece while still staying true to the brand’s value and image. Carrie K. became the first recipient of this inaugural award.

  1. Champion for Creatives and Designers Award


Sometimes to ignite a flame requires one brave soul with twenty seconds of insane courage to take a leap of faith into the unknown, which will trigger a chain reaction in the future. It is widely known that local designers struggle to prosper in this small little red dot however one woman, Carolyn Kan believes in her vision of helping local designers strive has gone beyond the call of duty to help fashion creatives showcase their passion and craft through A Majestic. Playground event, a collaboration between KEEPERS and The Straits Clan. With that, the committee felt the need to reward her contributions to the industry and presented her with this special award.

  1. Tribute to virtuoso Tan Yoong

This year even as we celebrate the achievements of the multi talents of the industry, we took a moment to pay tribute to one of the first ‘fathers’ of the local fashion industry. Touted as the first contemporary designer in Singapore, Tan Yoong has won numerous accolades for his extravagant couture and bridal gowns on the international stage. His invaluable contributions have established Singapore as a viable fashion powerhouse and we are sure that the legacy of his talent and passion will continue to carry on for many years to come.

  1. Senior Minister of State Sim Ann gracing the event

We are delighted and honored to have Senior Minister of State Sim Ann gracing the Singapore Fashion Awards 2017. Ms Sim Ann has always been a fervent advocate of the fashion industry from wearing local designer labels to pushing for initiatives that boost the fashion scene in Singapore. We look forward to working with SMS Sim Ann who is also a patron of Taff, to create a more vibrant fashion community!

  1. NAFA Spring Summer 2018 Collection



We are heartened to see the young ones shaping the future of the fashion industry with the showcase of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts graduate students’ Spring Summer 2018 collections right here at the Singapore Fashion Awards 2017. This includes Benz Tan Tze Beng’s entitled “My Journey”, Tan Yee Na Edna’s 0.5cm collection, Kok Yik Kuen’s Ain’t All Sprinkles Collection and Lee Le’s Scribbles collection.

  1. Extravagant garden theme set up



Who says fairytales do not come true? Guests saw themselves living out the garden fantasy they had once only dreamt about as W Singapore- Sentosa Cove’s Great room transformed into a wonderland from floral mannequin centerpieces to huge photo walls that made anyone’s Instagram dream come true.
